The hepatitis virus panel is a set of blood tests that can be performed to determine whether a person has ever had hepatitis A, B, or C. It is capable of simultaneously screening blood samples for many hepatitis virus types. Tests using antibodies and antigens can identify all known hepatitis viruses. Recall that only those with hepatitis B and D get illness. On a hepatitis antibody panel, it is not frequently tested. Blood is most often drawn from a vein from the inside of the elbow or the back of the hand. The site is cleaned with germ-killing medicine (antiseptic). The health care provider wraps an elastic band around the upper arm to apply pressure to the area and make the vein swell with blood. Next, the provider gently inserts a needle into the vein. The blood collects into an airtight tube attached to the needle. The elastic band is removed from your arm.
